Hand Crafted Jewellery by Dave Wilson

The first piece I ever made was the classic Celtic bracelet which started my whole journey in jewellery many years ago. I have been making Celtic bracelets ever since. There are so many different designs and variations, which I have created myself and developed the techniques to make them. Below are just a few examples I have made over the years. The Classic 1, Classic 2 and OXO have all proved popular designs.

I love chains. The traditional and ancient chain mail designs create stunningly beautiful and intricate chains and bracelets which combine a wonderful solid weight with a snake like flexibility. In particular my Sterling silver Byzantine bracelets have proved very popular. See my etsy store, where I always have a few ready.

Hand crafted rings. A great gift on their own, or as part of a set with matching bracelet and earrings. I am particularly proud of the silver and gold wedding rings below. They took a year to make.

Most of the Classic Celtic bracelet and necklace designs can be extended to matching earrings. Here are some more specialised earrings I have made. If you want something unusual that you can’t find, just ask.

After my sister got divorced she asked me to turn her old wedding rings and broken dress ring into crosses. This has now become quite a popular thing to do. Rings can be straightened out and the pieces formed into a cross. The crosses below are just a few examples of recycled rings and earrings. The gold & silver cross is something I am very proud of, made as a confirmation gift for young lady. She has had many admiring comments about it. It was made completely from scratch by melting down scrap silver and gold and rolling the bars and strips to create the cross. One of my masterpieces.

I was given a crumpled, brown leaf, found in the street and asked to copy it in sterling silver. I also made matching earrings.

I was recently approached by a lady to make her some charms for a Pandora bracelet. She had a few old items of gold such as an old broken bangle and an odd earring. She made some suggestions and we came up with a few ideas. She then left me to be creative. I added sterling silver to compliment the gold and the results where stunning.

What started out as an experiment, has proven to be the most popular thing I have ever created. Each ring is made from a genuine vintage coin. The process involves turning the coin inside out. This results in a perfectly seamless ring without any joints or solder. The heads are on the inside of the ring and the tails (usually with the date) are on the outside. Hence they make great gift to commemorate a particular year. Old halfpenny coins and shillings work best. Most modern decimal coins simply are not suitable. 19th century shillings can be used and made into sterling silver rings. Have look at the Etsy and Ebay shops and if you don’t see what you want, just ask.
